When great grandfather Ben Waller came home at the end of the War Between the States he soon got married. He and his wife had two children then she died. Ben was left alone with two small children to raise, not a cheerful prospect.

Older neighbor Ryland Hunt had also served in the war and had several older sons and daughters. One daughter was Catherine Hunt, she was 18 years old and had no prospects of marriage. Ryland recognized an opportunity to help (get rid of) his daughter. He approached the widower and soon 18 year old Cath was married to 30 year old Ben. The marriage license is at the link below.
