Uncle Clyde and His Family
Uncle Clyde was the last born of the children of Kate and
Cleveland Steppe. As a young man he lived for a time with his brother Gordon
and wife Alice Mae in Lynchburg. He worked at a gasoline station. Alice
remembers that he lost his job because her wore dirty overalls to work.
Clyde met his wife Irene as a serviceman stationed in Pratt,
Kansas. She called him Steppe after the name on his uniform. They settled in
Iuka Kansas where we went to visit them one summer.
