Peter Daniel Deed of Gift. February 7, 1799

Here is my transcription of the Deed of Gift that Peter Daniel made to his grandchildren by his daughter, Jemimah Daniel Daniel Hinton. It is supposed that Jemimah Daniel first married a cousin Daniel, then a Hinton.

To all people to whom these presents shall come I Peter Daniel Sr. send greeting. Know ye that I the said Peter Daniel of Campbell County and state of Virginia for and in consideration of the love, good will, and affection which I have and do bear toward my daughter Jemimah Hinton’s three children viz, Edmond Daniel, Rhody Daniel, and Amy Allen Hinton have given and granted and by these presents do freely give and grant unto the said children the plantation and tract of land whereon I now live containing fifty acres more or less and bounded as followeth, towit, beginning at John Ratekin’s line and running from thence a straight line to a bend in a branch thence up said branch as it meanders to the head thereof thence a straight line to Ben Trent’s line thence along Ben Trent’s line to the back line thence along the back line to Jno. Reynolds corner thence along Jno. Reynolds line to his and Bottoms corner at a branch thence along Bottoms line to Jno. Ratekin’s line thence along said Ratekin’s line to the first station. And the said children shall have nothing to do with said land and premises as long as their mother lives and after her decease the said land shall be sold and the money equally divided among the said three children.

In witness whereof I have here unto set my hand and seal this seventh day of February in the year of our Lord 1799. Signed, sealed and delivered.

Peter Daniel {X} his mark.
