In times past a church might have very strict rules. In January
1823, relative Pleasant Lane was called to answer why he had broken an
attendance rule, as recorded in this clipping from a history of the church.

A Pleasant Layne Family appears in the 1910 Census. He could
be a son or grandson of Pleasant Lane. His wife Lucy is a white female born
July 1847. She is 52 and married for 30 years, has given birth to 10, 7 of
which are still living. A granddaughter and a black servant girl live in the
home.
