14 LARGE HORNS

These long instruments have features in common; they are made of wood and sounded into the mouthpiece with the lips.

 

The Alpenhorn or Alpine Horn is indigenous to Switzerland. The horn can play melodies of the natural harmonic series obtained by altering the frequency and pressure on the players lips.

The Didgeridoo is about 1500 years old. It is still made and played by the Australian aborigines.

  

The Tibetan Dungchen is a long horn used mostly in ceremonies. In this short selection there are also short horns.
