Old and New. These steps on Jackson Street lead up into the parking lot of Marshall Lodge Hospital, which stands on Grace Street. The nurse's home was on Jackson across from these steps. The older stone steps in the foreground have been supplemented with a modern concrete structure with a rail.
The regular grid of downtown Lynchburg is broken at 12th Street. To the west the streets run over White Rock Hill in a convenient fashion. Harrison Street ends near 12th Street then starts again for a few blocks at Washington Street. These steps are on what would be Harrison Street. Leading upward from 13th to Grace Streets, the landings of these several flights of steps provide the only access to these houses.
